About this Mastering Primary

I have been practicing Ashtanga Yoga off and on for 25 years. I practiced every day for a year. I practiced regularly for a couple of years in a row. I practiced in India with Pattabhi Jois (the originator of Ashtanga yoga), and later with Sharath (his grandson). I even lived in a yoga ashram for an extended period of time. I have still never managed to develop a credible Primary Series. As implied by the name, the Primary Series is the starting point for an Ashtanga practice. In any reasonable assessment, this is an astounding failure. It is also a failure that influences many areas of my life.

Your equivalent could be the book you haven't written, the business you haven't started, the relationship you haven't developed, the equity you haven't accumulated. It is the intention you live with but persistently don't fulfill.

Yoga helpfully provides a guidebook to meet our intentions. I expect the guidebook is broadly applicable to any complex personal endeavour.

This site follows my journey using this guidebook to dig myself out of a hole, to develop a life of meaning, to find meaning in the life I am living. Through this journey I intend to develop the  baseline skills required to live a rewarding life and I intend to also find the thrill and ecstasy of living closer to god.

Along the way I will also develop a graceful Primary Series.
